Building Construction 1
Project 1 : Experiencing Construction
This project required us to visit an ongoing construction site to identify different types of building elements and its construction process, details and materials. We are also required to study and record construction of different building elements that we have learnt in this module.
We went to 3 different construction sites to carry out our studies. The first one was a fire station construction site, the second one was a residential construction site and the third one was a mosque construction site. I was assigned to do the external work and temporary structures part. Throughout this project, I learned how to produce a complete documentation in the form of sketches, picture, drawings and analysis of construction elements. Also, I understood and learned some basic construction elements and its components. Finally, I had learned the current construction technology on local construction sites.

Project 2: Integrated Construction Detailing/ Drawings
This project is integrated with Architecture Design Studio 2. We are required to identify and propose 3 architectural detailing of the building we designed and hand drawn it on one piece of A2 size paper.
I chose foundation, staircase (superstructure) and roof to propose my idea. For foundation, I proposed pad foundation (reinforced concrete column) as it supports and transmits the loads from piers and columns. Next, quarter landing staircase- Cut string open tread stairs was proposed. The string is cut to accept the treads and since they are exposed, the quality and the details are very precise. Besides, shed roof with a cemboard plank was proposed as cemboard plank is weather resistant and it is maintenance free. After this project, I learned how to select suitable structural elements for my design project and I also learned how to design and apply proper structural element for my design.
